  1. We find the quiet, reserved beauty of For Dim Hands deeply moving and harrowingly unique. Both ethereal and humanly personal, the album is a wonderful statement to the acousitic shoegaze influences like Grouper and the recent Julianna Barwick.

Perhaps the most interesting and memorable aspect of Motile's work is his voice: it's an effortless falsetto that creates rich textures that sit in the foreground and background of each track. The vocal performance is nothing short of fascinating at every turn- Motile's voice is truly an instrument of both atmosphere and expression. Pure, emotive, and beautiful.

The album favors atmosphere over melody, but that's not to say that there are none: "Spine (Nomadic Poem)" and "Tide (The Guards)" excel in this area, the former a haunting chant of longing and denial and the latter an anthemic cry for redemption.

The album also has notably unique lyrics. Most of them are heavily obscured, which makes for a sort of undercover, double meaning that is attached to each piece. When the lyrics are clear and at the front of the mix, though, it's both unsettling and gorgeous. Particular attention is always drawn to which lyrics are heard the clearest- a choice by the artist that has already provided us with more to think about then we originally would have.

For Dim Hands's strength lies in its willingness to explore pockets of static and the dark corners of the soul. Sonically speaking, the album is often like walking down a long, dark hallway and trying doors you've never opened before. The mystery of a soul, and its secrets, are examined here in a soft light; its wounds are slowly and q uietly revealed to the listener right up through the album's cathartic closer. Every sound has a shadow: the expanse of the echos and reverb sound like an underwater cathedral. The lyrics of the album certainly add to this. Words are cryptic, sparse, and mysterious.

We loved this album so much, in fact, that Motile will be featured on our 2010 album. Also Motile is super hot and a super smart doctor.
